The Construction Project Nurse is responsible for providing medical support and healthcare services to construction workers on-site, ensuring that all health and safety protocols are followed, and promoting a culture of wellness and injury prevention. They will serve as the first responder to any medical emergencies, manage minor injuries and illnesses, and collaborate with the health and safety team to reduce workplace hazards
Key Responsibilities:
First Aid and Emergency Response:
Respond to medical emergencies and provide immediate first aid, stabilization, or CPR as needed.
Coordinate the evacuation of injured workers to medical facilities, ensuring proper documentation and reporting of incidents.
Keep detailed records of injuries, illnesses, treatments, and outcomes.
Health and Safety Monitoring:
Conduct regular health assessments for workers, particularly those exposed to hazardous materials or physical strain.
Participate in site health and safety audits, inspections, and safety meetings.
Advise workers on personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe working practices to prevent injuries and illnesses.
Health Education and Promotion:
Provide health education sessions for workers on topics like proper lifting techniques, hydration, nutrition, stress management, and mental health.
Promote the importance of workplace wellness through campaigns, posters, and educational materials.
Medical Record Keeping and Reporting:
Maintain confidential records of all health-related incidents and treatments, adhering to relevant privacy and legal standards.
Report on health trends, accident reports, and any work-related illnesses to management and relevant authorities.
Collaboration with Health and Safety Team:
Work closely with the safety officer and site managers to develop health and safety protocols tailored to the specific needs of the construction site.
Assist in conducting training for workers on health and safety procedures.
Occupational Health Services:
Monitor the health of workers exposed to specific risks (e.g., hazardous materials, heavy machinery) and recommend necessary adjustments or accommodations.
Offer advice and support for workers returning to work after an injury or illness, ensuring proper fitness for duty.
Injury and Illness Prevention:
Promote and enforce safety protocols to reduce workplace accidents, including proper ergonomics, proper hydration, and fatigue management.
Help to implement workplace safety programs, such as injury prevention training.
Requirements
Registered Nurse (RN) with an active state license.
Certification in CPR, first aid, and emergency response (e.g., Basic Life Support).
Occupational health nursing experience is preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 2-3 years of nursing experience, preferably in construction or industrial settings.
Previous experience in an emergency or occupational health setting is an asset.
Skills:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with workers, managers, and contractors.
Ability to assess and respond to health and safety risks in high-risk environments.
Knowledge of occupational health regulations and construction site safety standards.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including walking long distances, standing for extended periods, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
Willingness to be available on-site during all working hours, including weekends or overtime as required.
